Chronograph VIII:

Day II ... Playing with creation's tools

Now the dawn of day II
With time marching onward
For never again
Would the clock be reset
Though each of our days
Was an epoque... an era
An aeon recording
Tumultuous events

How we played with our toolbox
Full of new resources
With protons and neutrons
And electrons likewise
With quarks and neutrinos
With strangeness and muons
Combining and arranging them
In a thousand different ways

We practised with the energies
Released by our actions
Always searching for media
That would help us in our plan
And soon we found a basic molecule
Which could be made by combining
Two of the most abundant elements
Using the simplest of bonds

Thus hydrogen burned in oxygen
Joined together to make water
Stable as a liquid
As a solid and a gas
As a universal solvent
It could be used to cleanse and purify
When cold it helps to calm things down
Yet can be carried on a breeze

So all through creation
We divided waters from the firmament
As a universal agent
To help our plan move ahead
We'd learnt lessons and made progress
With another era passing
A second evening and a morning
We knew that it was good
