true wisdom comes not from dogma but from sharing and discussing our understandings with others whose beliefs differ from our own ... we can also benefit from occasionally listening to children... you could start by clicking here!

"a little girl's question"

prompts a fresh look at the Lord's prayer

A wise, old owl sat on an oak, The more he saw, the less he spoke. The less he spoke, the more he heard. Why can't we all be like that little bird?

"When we pray to 'Our Father in Heaven...'
Do we really mean that God's an old man in the sky?"
Katie looked to her mum on the bar stool
Who sat back and then gave this reply

"Well... it's nice to think of Him as a wise old man
Taking care of us all down below
Looking down from the clouds to make sure we're all right
But we don't need to think of Him so...

You see He's everywhere at all times in all places
Ready to listen when we need someone to hear
And when we're sad or frustrated and angry
He'll hold us close 'cos we'll need someone near."

"I don't understand mum... You've got me all confused now
How could anyone be everywhere at the same time?
I think somebody's telling porkies
And you always say that we should never, never lie..."

"Well... when God made the whole of creation
He left a bit of Himself in all things
In the fishes of the sea and the birds of the air
He makes sure they can swim... gives them songs they can sing

So that's why we can always find Him
And when we're lost He can always hear
And He'll always be there for you to call on
On the wind, whispering softly in your ear... "

So you can see why we sing, "Oh Father in Heaven
All praise to Your name
May Your kingdom come
And Your will be done
May Your kingdom come
And Your will be done
On Earth as it is in Heaven.

Please give us this day
Our daily bread
And forgive us our sins
And Help us to forgive those who hurt us
Please don't lead us to temptation
And save us from harm
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are Yours

Amen forever and ever Amen
Amen forever and ever Amen
Just as You
taught us
We offer this plea
Through our perfect Redeemer
Our humbl
e litany"

"And Katie, Amen means: Let it be"

"Thank you Mummy... Amen... let it be"
